The Port Royal Sound Foundation is celebrating their 3rd Birthday Party on Saturday, November 11th from 10am-3pm at the Maritime Center in Okatie, SC. The celebration will provide hands-on activities and demonstrations for families to enjoy. Rewind 107.9 will be covering the event from 11-1pm and providing the greatest hits from the 70s, 80s and more. WSAV Storm Tracker will also be on-site beginning at noon.
The party will showcase many of the Foundations’ local partners. Fripp Island, Friends of Hunting Island and Lowcountry Master Naturalists will have live Lowcountry critters, such as turtles, alligators and snakes to see up close. Children will have the opportunity to create their own fish-print reusable bag and learn how to properly use a life jacket. Beaufort Marine Supply will demonstrate making crab traps and the Sea Island Fly Fishers will teach guests how to tie flies. Lowcountry Master Gardeners will provide tips on building your own Butterfly Garden at home and several food trucks will have lunch available for purchase.
The Maritime Center opened its doors in 2014 with a focus on educating visitors about the Port Royal Sound. Since then, they have had over 50,000 visitors and with over 20 exhibits and live animal displays, the Maritime Center serves as a doorway to the journey of discovery.
The festival will be a great way for the Foundation to end 2017 with a bang. Participating vendors, demonstration schedules and parking information will be posted on the Port Royal Sound Foundation’s Facebook page. For more information, contact the Foundation office at 843-645-7774.
